CIREBON RAYA ■ PURWAKARTA — Indonesia's Ministry of Manpower and PT Indo-Rama Synthetics Tbk have provided business capital support to five self-employed workers in Purwakarta, West Java, as part of efforts to promote entrepreneurship and create jobs.
The support was provided to three existing self-employed businesses and two start-ups under Indo-Rama's corporate social responsibility programme, known in Indonesia as TJSL.
Sugeng Heri Suseno, director general for labour placement and expanding employment opportunities at the ministry, said the funding was expected to help recipients increase production capacity, upgrade equipment and expand market access, including through digital platforms.
"The Self-Employment Programme aims to turn job seekers into job creators," Sugeng said at the handover ceremony in Purwakarta on Friday.
The programme is designed not only to help people start businesses but also to strengthen existing businesses so they can expand and create new employment opportunities, he said.
Sugeng said the partnership between the ministry and Indo-Rama had produced results in the previous year, when three recipients of business capital support created new jobs while also generating economic opportunities for business partners and suppliers.
The results showed that cooperation between the government and private sector could strengthen community-based businesses and help reduce unemployment through entrepreneurship, he said.
The ministry urged the five recipients to use the funding to strengthen their businesses according to their stage of development, either by expanding existing operations or establishing new sustainable businesses.(gusti Haes)
